Mark Backensto

Mark Backensto, 59, of Mansfield, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 14, 2020 at Avita Ontario Health Systems. Mark was born on February 2, 1961 in Mansfield, Ohio. He was the son of Richard "Dick" and Charlotte Mae (Au) Backensto.

Mark had a wicked sense of humor, was quite the character, slightly stubborn and a bit ornery. He lived life to the absolute fullest. He was a hard worker and was employed at Packaging Corp of America. Mark loved to cook, and was a good cook. Watching cooking shows were one of Mark's favorite past times. He was a chef at Wish Bone many years ago, and liked having BBQ's. Mark was a family man who loved family visits and enjoyed spending time with family. He was a member of the Ashland Eagles.

Mark is survived by his significant other for nearly 24 years, Nancy Riebau; his siblings, Jim Backensto, Robin (Sam) Stankovich, and Steve (Angel) Backensto; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his step-mother, Gertude "Trudy" (Haney) Backensto.

Family and friends may visit on Monday, February 17, 2020 from 5:00-8:00 pm at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street. Private burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery at a later date.
