Mary Altaffer

Mary Emma Berry Altaffer, 91, of Mansfield, died Saturday morning March 12, 2005 at Kingston of Ashland Nursing Home. She was born March 16, 1913 in Mansfield to Fred J. and Rose Lowman Berry. Mrs. Altaffer retired form the Coca-Cola Bottling Company after 22 years of service. She was a member of the First English Lutheran Church. Mrs. Altaffer enjoyed crossword puzzles, soap operas, game shows, and bowling.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Sandra Altaffer of Mansfield, and William and Diana Altaffer of Florida; three daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Sorensen of Florida, Rosemary and William Cox of Mansfield; and Kathleen and Edward Mawhorr of North Carolina; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; two step grand children; two step great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hurbert, in 1971; her son-in-law, Leonard Sorensen; and one step grandson.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday March 15, 2005 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday March 16 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the First English Lutheran Church.
