

Mary Elizabeth Jurgens Eaton, 103, of Mansfield, Ohio, died early Sunday morning, January 18, 2015, at Liberty Nursing Center. She was born August 6, 1911, in Dover, Ohio, to the late Joseph V. and Martha (Reeves) Jurgens. She came to Mansfield in 1926 and graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1929. Mary was a faithful member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and was a member of the Helen Hayden Charity Club.
She retired from Richland County Welfare Department, now known as Job and Family Services. Her desire to help others extended to her volunteer activities with the STARS Program at Ranchwood Elementary School. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing Bridge with her high school girlfriends until the age of 90.
Mary is survived by her children, Virginia E. (Dr. Raymond) Applegate, Mary Jane (John R.) Lump, both of Mansfield, Susan (Rodney) Clagg, Charles F. Eaton, Jr., both of Bellville and Thomas J. Eaton of Columbus; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandsons; two great-granddaughters; several nieces; and one nephew. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles F. Eaton, Sr. in 1990; a sister, Virginia Jurgens Glessner; and three brothers, Joseph B., Frederick H. and Thomas C. Jurgens.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2015, in the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield, where a Prayer Service will be recited at 4:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in St. Peter's Catholic Church, 104 W. First St., Mansfield, with Father Jeremy Miller presiding. Burial will follow in Mansfield Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Monsignor Edward C. Dunn Foundation.
