Mason Volkmer

Mason Thomas Storm Volkmer, 19, of Ashland, died Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at MedCentral Mansfield. Born April 25, 1991 in Mansfield, he was the son of Steven E. Volkmer and Deborah L. Huss Scheurer. Mason was a 2010 graduate of Madison Comprehensive High School where he was a member of the Varsity Football Team. A member of the Ashland Bow Club and the Crawford County Conservation League, Mason was an avid coon and deer hunter and enjoyed all outdoor activities. He worked numerous jobs throughout his school years. Mason planned to attend the Fire Fighters Academy and become a fire fighter/paramedic. He loved country music, weight lifting, and enjoyed being with his friends. Most of all, he loved spending time with his nephew, "Noah Bear". Mason was known for his outgoing personality, gentle spirit, great smile, and being thoughtful and caring beyond his years.

He is survived by his mother and step father, Deborah Samuel J. Scheurer of Ashland; maternal grandparents, Gary and Trudy Huss of Mansfield; paternal grandparents, Larry and Shirley Volkmer of Bucyrus; sister, Stevi Volkmer of Ashland; nephew, Noah Alexander; step grandmother, Rita Scheurer of Mansfield; step brother, Logan Scheurer of Mansfield; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and many friends including those who are serving our country overseas. He was preceded in death by his father, Steven E. Volkmer; step mother, Tamara Volkmer; great grandmothers, Thelma Huss, Goldie Thomas, and Virginia Volkmer; great grandfathers, Ursa Huss and Harold Thomas; and step brother, J.R. Brown.

Friends may call Sunday, August 22, 2010 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-9:00 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd. Mansfield. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 23, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home conducted by Pastor Phil Green. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
