Melinda L. Smith

Melinda L. Smith, 63, of Mansfield, passed away early Wednesday morning, April 20, 2016, at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. She was born October 12, 1952, in Mansfield, Ohio, to the late Ellis LeRoy Hammond and Dorothy Jane Swanger Hammond.

She was a treasured sister and friend. Melinda was a quiet person who was always willing to help. She gave her undivided attention to whomever was talking with her. In her free time, she enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading and watching television, especially cooking shows. Melinda adored her nieces and nephews.

She is survived by a son, Gregory A. (Heidi) Smith of Zanesville; two grandsons, Carter and Cutler Smith; two sisters, Carol (Tom) Lorentz of Mansfield and Melissa (Craig) Jones of Frisco, TX; three brothers, Terrence (Pat) Hammond of Grand Rapids, MI, Christopher Hammond of Wayland, MI and Ellis L. Hammond of Mansfield; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, David R. Hammond.

Honoring Melinda's wishes, there will be no services or visitation observed. The Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family.
