
Melvin "Mel" George Riggleman, of Mansfield, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at home surrounded by his loving family. Mel was born on September 4, 1936 in Mansfield, Ohio to George and Evelyn Hyman Riggleman. Mel served in the United States Army from August 20, 1958 to July 31, 1964. He served his country proudly in Korea in Inchon, Pusan, Seoul and Youg-Dengpo. He was awarded several medals and accommodations for his military service. He retired after 30+ years of service to Pepsi Cola Bottling Company. Mel attended Caesarea Baptist Church for a number of years and later Crossroads Community Church.
Mel is survived by his wife, Linda L. Friend Riggleman whom he married May 11, 1965; two sons, Richard Robyn Riggleman and Christopher Barbra Riggleman both of Mansfield; 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren; three brothers, Kelvin Riggleman, Marvin Dorothy Riggleman of Mansfield and Gary Beth Riggleman of Bellville; three sisters, Beverly Worner, Joan Murphy and Marilee Friend all of Mansfield; two brothers-in-law, Floyd Donna Friend of Gosport, IN and Larry Friend of Jacksonville, FL; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Ann Troupe of Mansfield and Patsy Goard of Ashland; his very special care giver, Cynthia Wheatcraft; and his long time friends, Raymond Mara-Jean Cornell. Mel was preceded in death by his father and mother, George and Evelyn Riggleman and an infant sister, Shirley Carol Riggleman.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 27, 2011 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, Ontario conducted by Pastor Ron Biddle. Burial will follow in Lantz Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted by the United States Army. Friends may call prior to the service, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Cambridge Home Health or Home Matters Hospice.
