

Mildred "Millie" Garrett, 91, of Mansfield, passed away Wednesday morning, July 29, 2015, at OhioHealth MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. She was born June 12, 1924, in New Washington, Ohio, to the late Timothy and Carrie (Mayer) McCarthy.
Millie grew up in New Washington and moved to Plymouth, Ohio, after marrying Elmer Garrett in 1941. She worked for 17 years at Independent Towel and retired from Hostetler Catering. Being a wife and mother was her main priority and family was her life. She was a great cook and enjoyed fixing delicious meals for her family and friends. Her giving nature was evident in everything she did. Everyone was welcome in Millie's home and she was "mom" to many.
Her hobbies included playing Bingo and visiting the casinos. She enjoyed vacationing as often as possible.
Millie is survived by two children, Virginia (Larry) Lester and Kenneth Garrett, Sr.; seven grandchildren, Michelle West, Jerry Craig, Jr., Timothy Martin, Christina (Paul) Weitz, Kenneth (Jill) Garrett, Jr., Kevin Garrett and Kathleen (Weston) Frazier; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild expected in February; and two special friends, Millie Laurent and Vicki Bollinger. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Carolyn Bird and sister, Frieda McCarthy.
Honoring Millie's request, there will be no visitation or services. The Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is honored to serve the family.
