Peter T. Gallina, 93, of Mansfield, passed away Tuesday evening, October 27, 2015, at Elmcroft Assisted Living Center in Ontario, Ohio. He was born September 23, 1922, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late John and Concetta (Martini) Gallina.
Peter served during WWII, in the U.S. Army and played the clarinet in the Army band. After his discharge, he worked for Diamond Portland Cement Company as a welder for almost 30 years until it closed. He then went to work at and retired from Kent State University as a painter, where he painted each and every building on the campus during his tenure. In 1946, he married the love of his life, Jennie Figliola and they shared almost 50 years of marriage. Peter's interest in the arts included drawing and creating unique works of art. He loved music, not only playing but also was quite the ballroom dancer. He was devoted to his family and crazy about his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Peter is survived by a daughter, Connie (Kirk) Hoffman; two grandchildren, Kirk (Natalie) Hoffman and RaeAnne (Jonathon) Stock; five great-grandchildren, Quincy, Pasquale, and James Hoffman, Raffaella and Josephine Stock; a sister-in-law, Louise Lattavo; a brother-in-law, Anthony Mascari; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jennie Gallina; three sisters, Amelia, Adelaide, and Rose; a brother, Bartholomew; a sister-in-law, Margaret; and a brother-in-law, Gilbert.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be recited by Father Leo J. Wehrlin on Monday, November 2, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. in Little Flower Catholic Parish, 2040 Diamond St. NE, Canton, Ohio. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, Canton, Ohio.
