

Polly S. Stevens, age 84, of Lexington, passed away Wednesday morning, January 2, 2013 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. She was born November 23, 1928 in Clintwood, Virginia to the late Hoge and Winnie (Stanley) Vance.
Polly was an area homemaker and enjoyed quilting, collecting tea pots, and canning the many vegetables provided by her husband from their garden. She was a member of Gospel Assembly Church and was known by her family and friends for her delicious cream pies and always ready to make someone cookies. She always made each person’s birthday celebration special. Living on the farm, she was ready to pitch in wherever needed, even chasing cows when they got loose. Polly enjoyed going to garage sales with her daughters.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Lee Stevens; children, Terry Stevens (Deb Kirkpatrick) of Bellville, Sherry (Bruce) Gorrell of Bellville, Cindy Fontes of Mansfield; seven grandchildren, Brigin Bradley, Erin Gorrell, Jordan Fontes, Nathaniel Fontes, Phillip Fontes, Ana Fontes and Jesse Fontes; five great-grandchildren, Kelsey Taylor, Dillon Burgess, Victoria Burgess, Crew Fontes and Ryder Fontes; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Sue Stevens and seven brothers and sisters.
The funeral service will be held Monday, January 7, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in Gospel Assembly Church, 1100 S. Trimble Road, Mansfield. Friends and family may visit beginning at 12:00 p.m. Pastor Daniel Baer will conduct the service and will be assisted by Don Stallard. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Gospel Assembly Church. The Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family of Mrs. Stevens.
