
Raymond C. Fortney, 88, went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, November 19, 2010, at MedCentral Mansfield. Born November 29, 1921, in Glen Hayes, WV, he was the son of Raymond F. and Minerva J. Fitzpatrick Fortney and lived most of his life in Mansfield. A veteran of the United States Army, he proudly served his country during World War II in the European Theatre. He retired from Therm-O-Disc in 1986 following 26 years of service and was a member of First Alliance Church. Raymond loved being out in the woods looking for spring mushrooms or enjoying Gods creations and enjoyed taking rides to Amish Country.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, E. Thomasine Chapman Fortney; his children who claimed he was the best daddy in the world, Kaye Tom Hahn and Steven Ray Brenda Fortney; his three grandsons and six great grandchildren, who lovingly called him Popie, Mark Jennifer Hahn, Matt Justine Hahn and Jacob Rayborne Fortney; and great grandchildren, Natalie Rae, Jana Kay, Joy Marie, Emily Grace, Joshua Thomas and Toby Mark. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mable Cook.
Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, November 21, 2010, at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 22, 2010, at the funeral home, conducted by Dr. Steve B. Burggraf. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Alliance Church Great Commission Fund.
