Rev. Paul Russell Haney, 76, of Mansfield, died Monday, January 16, 2006, at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. He was born July 8, 1929, in Paulding, Ohio, the son of Nutie A. and Mable G. Fitzgerald Haney. He has resided in the Mansfield area since 1991 and retired from the Christian Church Disciples of Christ having served at Southside Christian Church and First Christian Church of Mansfield. He also served as a minister in Shenandoah, Lisbon, Geneva, Lordstown, Bluffton-Beaverdam, and Shreve. Rev. Haney was a 32-degree Mason, Valley of Canton, a member of the Garfield Masonic Lodge 528 of Shreve, the Johnny Appleseed Woodcarvers and was an avid golfer. Rev. Haney did his undergraduate work at Defiance College, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education at Bluffton College, and a Bachelor of B.D. & M. Div. Graduate School of Theology from Oberlin College.
Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Gary Oswalt of Mansfield, Kathy and Larry Nickell of Waycross, Ga., and Julie and Mark Gilson of Sevierville, Tenn.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Cathy Haney of Clinton and Mark and Suzette Haney of Warren; 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Herbert and Lois Haney of Cocoa, Fla. and Owen and Kathy Haney of Springfield; one sister and brother-in-law, Leahdeanne and Richard Gunderman of Paulding; and two sisters-in-law, June Taylor and Barnetta Sutton both of Paulding. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Marie Sutton Haney on September 4, 2005; a grandson and a great granddaughter.
Friends may call Wednesday, January 18, 2006 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 19, 2006 at First Christian Church, Mansfield, with Rev. Sharon Kiesel officiating. Friends may call at the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Paulding, OH prior to the 3:00 p.m. graveside service in Live Oak Cemetery in Paulding, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church of Mansfield.
