Richard Bergman

A veteran of the United States Navy, he was a former member of North Ridgeville United Methodist Church. He was employed through the Pipe Fitters Local #120 in Cleveland, Ohio as a foreman and superintendent having served his apprenticeship in California before moving to Cleveland. A part time farmer, he loved John Deere Tractors, spending time working in his yard, and traveling to Amish Country with his family and friends but his greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family. Dick's family was also proud of the fact that he was an Organ Donor through Lifeline of Ohio.

He is survived by his wife, Betty (Spangler) Bergman; a son, Richard "Buddy" (Kathy) Bergman of Ashland; a daughter, Kimberly Spence of Mansfield; 11 grandchildren, Crystal Thomas, Jason Bergman, Jillian (Alex) Gonzalez, Shawn Bergman, Nick Huber, Leya (Mark) Kelly, Daniel Bergman, Kali Spence, Megan Bergman, Quianna Bergman and Justin, his special needs grandson. He was often thinking of ways he could provide comfort and joy to him. Also surviving are four great grandchildren, Erika Thomas, Kaitlyn Thomas, Adam Thomas and Adrian Bergman; four brothers, Ron (Kate) Bergman of Gibsonia, PA, John Bergman of Columbia Station, OH, Larry (Mary Ann) Bergman of Medina, OH and Thomas "Bill" (Pat) Bergman of Johnstown, PA; a sister, Susan (Ben) Oremland of Vienna, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Roger Bergman; a sister, Mary Lee Burke; a daughter-in-law, Betsy Bergman; a sister-in-law, Mildred Bergman; and a niece, Lynn Burke.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013 at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 308 Claremont Avenue, Ashland conducted by Dr. John Jordan. Burial will follow in Vermillion Cemetery, Hayesville where full military honors will be conducted by the Ashland Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call starting at 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
