Richard B. DeWitt, Jr., 61, of Mansfield, died January 15, 2010 at his home. Born September 7, 1948 in Mansfield, he was the son of Richard B. Sr. and Eleanor Gumbert DeWitt. He graduated from Malabar High School and was a member of Father's Garden Christian Fellowship. Richard worked at numerous hotels as a dishwasher. Well known by many in Mansfield, he was a volunteer for the Salvation Army from many years for the Kettle Program and the Free Meal Program.
He is survived by one sister, Frances Butts; three nephews, Larry Melinda Butts, Gary fiancée, Lori Barth Butts, and Jerry Nancy Butts; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Cecilia DeWitt.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Father's Garden Christian Fellowship, 14 N. Walnut St., Mansfield, conducted by Pastor Philip Banks and assisted by Rev. Mark Lee. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or Father's Garden Christian Fellowship.
