

Richard Lewis Hamilton, 80, died Friday evening, surrounded by his family at Wintersong Nursing Home, after a long illness. Born May 1, 1923, to James G and Edith Lacy Hamilton in Wadsworth, Ohio, Mr. Hamilton was a life-long resident of Mansfield, Ohio. He was a graduate of Mansfield Senior High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the South Pacific. He received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Ashland College, a Masters in Guidance and Counseling from Ohio State University. He had an accounting business, Hamilton Accounting, for 50 years. He served on the Madison Local School Board, as President and Vice President and Board Member from 1957-1965 and again in 1979-1980. He was a Guidance counselor at Ashland Junior High from 1970-1975 and principal of Lincoln Elementary in Ashland, Ohio 1975-1983. He taught accounting at Ashland College for 5 years. He loved playing golf and this interest resulted in his becoming part owner and Treasurer of Imperial Golf course from 1961-1978. He served as President and Vice President of the Madison Area Growth Association.
Mr. Hamilton is survived by his wife, Eleanor Maurer Hamilton, of Mansfield; two sons, Thomas J. and his wife Jill of Grand Haven, Michigan, Alan R and his wife Anne of Ashland, Ohio and a daughter Judith C and her husband Barry Phegan of Larkspur, California; three grandchildren; Tim Hamilton, Mansfield, Christina Sentieri of Corte Madera, California, Jenny Mulch of Mansfield; one brother; Herbert J. Hamilton of Lansing, Michigan; sister, Gay Conlan of Mansfield, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.
Two brothers; Jack V. Hamilton and Giles E. Hamilton preceded him in death.
Friends may call at the Mayflower Congregational Church Tuesday from 10:00 until the time of service at 11:30 a.m. at the church, conducted by Dr. Gary Wilson. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park.
