

Born December 14, 1925, in Kramer, PA he was the son of Edward and Elizabeth (Harrison) Roose. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II with the 101st Airborne as a combat infantryman in the Campaign of Central Europe including the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Richard moved to Mansfield in 1947 and was a truck driver with Roose Trucking for 40 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 16, 40 et 8, Sons of Herman, Ashland Eagles Club and the Owls. He was an avid golfer and former bowler.
He is survived by a son, Richard (Sharon) Roose of Ashland; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Tom Kiley of Mansfield; two grandsons, Jason and Jeremy Kiley; a granddaughter, Richelle Roose; a special friend, Margaret (Maggie) McAllister; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death in 1997 by his wife of 50 years, Marion Louise (Stevens) Roose whom he married May 17, 1947; brothers, Benjamin, Joseph and John Roose; and sisters, Margaret Bordt, Jean Kepheart and Catherine Hellerman.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 23, 2011 in Ashland County Memorial Park conducted by Chaplain Bob Shirk with military services conducted by the 40 et 8. Friends may call from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio.
