
Robert "Bob" C. Boyd, 61, of Ashland, died Monday, July 28, 2008. He passed onto his Lord from Grant Medical Center in Columbus, and will be greatly missed. He was a very giving person all of his life and cared deeply for his family and friends. Born June 20, 1947, in Ashland, he was the son of Charles Edward and Marjorie Roberts Boyd. Bob was a veteran of the United States Navy serving two tours in Vietnam as a Navy Seabee. He retired from Bosch Manufacturing after 27 years of service. He was one of the founding members of the adult flag football league in Ashland in 1982, and was active as a football coach for the 7th and 8th graders at Ashland City Schools. Bob was a member of the American Legion Post 88 and the AMVETS. He was a published author, having written two poetry books, "Love Is Not Enough" and "Following the Cheyenne".
Surviving are two sons, Douglas Boyd of Lexington and Brian Boyd of Ashland; one daughter, Tammy Simmons of Worthington; his mother, Marjorie Roberts Boyd Taylor of Trenton, FL; stepmother, Margaret Boyd of W. Palm Beach, FL; stepsister, Joy Burke of W. Palm Beach, FL; grandchildren, Cieleste, Jeffrey, Ethan, Jordan, Kazmyn, Jagger, Kyra and Talon; a brother and sister-in-law, Ronald S. and Judy Boyd of Trenton, FL; several nieces and nephews; and best friends, Dick Ames and Max Arnold. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles E. Boyd in December of 2005 and stepfather, Alfred Taylor in 1994.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2008, at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 1, 2008, at the funeral home conducted by Pastor Randy Peters. Burial will follow in Dickey Church Cemetery where full military services will be conducted by the Ashland County Burial Detail. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
