Robert Donaldson

Robert G. Donaldson, 88, passed away Thursday evening, September 25, 2008, at Crystal Care Center of Mansfield. He had previously resided at the Waterford and Wedgewood Estates of Mansfield. Born May 8, 1920, in Carroll County, he was the son of the late Walter and Eva Gray Donaldson. Bob was a tool and die maker and retired from General Motors in 1985, and was the former owner of Wayne Nursery in Wayne County. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy as a Petty Officer First Class and served during WWII. He attended the Presbyterian Church. A man of many talents, Bob enjoyed wood and metal working, horticulture, photography, and competitive shooting. He was a longtime member of the Ohio Nut Growers Assoc., member of U.A.W. Local #549, Retmen's Club, Richland Camera Club and Richland Lithic and Lapidary Society.

He is survived by three sons, R. Scott Sally Donaldson of Bellville, Alan Janice Donaldson of Bucyrus and Gordon Donaldson of Mansfield; five grandchildren, Jennifer Tim Jablonski, Trevor Cyndi Donaldson, Carole Russ Pause, Leanne Shane Manring and Richard Christine Donaldson; fourteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard Donaldson of Columbus; three sisters, Leah Wolford of Ashland, Mildred Simon of Dalton and Ruth Fike of Wooster; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara and sister, Ellen Fike.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, October 26, 2008 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road.
