
Robert Stanley Leather, 87, of Mansfield, died Wednesday afternoon, April 20, 2005, at Mifflin Care Center after an extended illness. Born January 27, 1918, in Mansfield, he was the son of Oscar M. and Gertrude Yearling Leather. He was salutatorian of his graduating class in 1935 and played football at Madison High School. Mr. Leather retired from Columbia Gas in 1978 as an engineer, and had also worked at Plumbrook Factory making gunpowder, and Humphrey's Manufacturing. He was a past member and Past President of the Ohio Field Trial Association and enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, carpentry and being outdoors.
He is survived by two sons, Robert L. 'Skip' Judy Leather, Thomas L. Carol Leather, all of Mansfield; daughter, Carol S. Charles A. Roberts of Mansfield; six grandchildren, Amy Roger Leyda, Annette Roby Musick, Robert 'Matt' Leather, Cindy Brian Murphy, Pam Adam Shambre and Kristin Tim Sprague; eleven great-grandchildren; and four step grandchildren. 'Gramps' will be sadly missed by all his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary C. Backensto Leather on November 12, 2001; three brothers, George, Richard and Ralph Leather; and sister, Rachel Remy.
Friends may call at the Ontario home of Wappner Funeral Directors, Friday, April 22 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Dr. Clair Hess and Rev. James Winkler. Burial will follow in Windsor Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Windsor Park Cemetery Association.
