He was a 1957 graduate of Union Local High School and served in the United States Army during peacetime. He retired from General Motors and was affiliated with St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Shelby, and was a member of U.A.W. #549 and Amvets # 26.
He is survived by a sister, Ann Femia of Columbus; a niece, Andrea Garvey of Hilliard, OH; nephew, Chris Femia of Westerville; and five great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Mansfield Memorial Park conducted by Rector Emeritus David S. Sipes. Military honors will be given by the Richland County Joint Veteran Burial Squad. Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family of Mr. Upson.
