Robert Wood

Robert Henry Wood, 80, of Mansfield, died Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at his home. Born October 6, 1925 in Berea, Kentucky, he was the son of William Bruce and Mary Poff Wood. He served in the U.S. Navy in WWII on the USS Corvus in the Pacific Theatre. He retired as the District Superintendent at Automatic Sprinkler Corp. Mr. Wood was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, where he was a long-term trustee, served on the administrative board, and was a youth fellowship counselor. He was also a Boy Scout troop committeeman and merit badge counselor. Mr. Wood was a member of the Venus Lodge #152 F. & A.M. He enjoyed traveling and camping with family and friends. A highlight of his life was serving on a missions trip to Kenya, with his son Michael.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn J. Noser Wood; two sons and daughter-in-law, Timothy Wood of Mansfield, and Michael and Lynn Wood of Wheaton, Illinois; four granddaughters, Libby Wood of Reynoldsburg, Abby Wood of Gahanna, and Kara and Joy Wood of Wheaton, Illinois; siblings, John and Fern Wood of Sebring, Florida, James and Donna Wood of Johnstown, and Andrew Wood of Richmond, Kentucky; sisters-in-law, Opal Wood of Fredricktown, Linda Downs of Lakeland, Florida, and Rebecca and Porter Thompson of Las Vegas, Nevada; brothers-in-law, Joseph and Diane Noser of Sandusky, William and Patricia Noser, Thomas and Diane Noser, all of Largo, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ernest and Charles Wood; and sisters, Frances Crew, and Sue Tanis.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, August 6, 2006 at the Main Street United Methodist Church in Mansfield conducted by The Rev. Allen Rose and The Rev. Dr. Blake Wagner, Sr. Friends may call one hour prior to the memorial service at the church. Private burial will be held on Monday in Mansfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Main Street United Methodist Church Memorial Fund. The Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors assisted the family with arrangements.
