
Ron Hughes, 50, of Bellville died Saturday, December 08, 2001 at Riverside Hospice in Columbus. Ron went to be with the Lord after a brief illness. He was born September 22, 1951 in Chesapeake, Ohio to Charles and Winifred Byington Hughes. Ron was a computer analyst for many years. He served in the US Marine Corps from 1969 to 1972, spending one tour of duty in Vietnam, and also was in the US Army from 1974 to 1979 where he was a tank commander. Ron was a passionately involved Christian who was a member of Mansfield First Assembly of God where he previously taught in the Christian Education program, developed the Prayer & Spiritual Warfare Training Camp along with his friend, Rev. Eleazer Akuchie, participated in choir and drama and was Senior Commander of Outpost 42 of the Royal Rangers. He most recently held the post of Deputy District Commander for the Ohio District Royal Ranger ministry. His years of work in the older boys Trail Ranger program resulted in the formation of the Ohio Junior Leadership Training Academy held each year. The Academy has now spread to many other states and has provided leadership training to hundreds of teenagers.
Ron was a loving husband to Karen who survives him. He is also survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jeremy & Mary Amber Hughes; one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa & Jason Rothhaar; one step-son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Brent and Starla Salyers; and one special son, Jacob Patton. His grandchildren, Hannah Hughes, Chase, Christian, Alexis and Austyn Salyers and Ashley Reeves were the special loves of his life. In addition, his mother, Winifred Hughes; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack & Dawn Hughes and Greg & Linda Hughes; and sister and brother-in-law, Judy & Nick Altstadt survive him. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Hughes.
Friends may call at the First Assembly of God, 1000 McPherson Street in Mansfield, Monday, December 10 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Homegoing Celebration service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday with his pastor, Rev. Thomas Blair officiating. Interment will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
