
Ronald Jay Talbott, 72, passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at his home. Born January 14, 1938 in Fulton County, Indiana, he was the son of Maurice Talbott and Helen Weller-Talbott Irvine. He graduated from Kewanna High School in Kewanna, Indiana in 1956. He loved playing basketball and softball on the high school team. In the fall of 1956, he joined the U.S. Army. He was in the Military Police and served six months in the Marshall Islands before he was honorably discharged in the fall of 1958. He promptly married his high school sweetheart, Leona Irene Geisler. This union produced three children, a son, Kim Talbott, and two daughters, Rita Talbott Craft, and Brenda Sue Talbott infant deceased daughter. Ron was in the trucking industry for 30 years. The last ten years he was Owner/Operator of Carpetmaster until his retirement in 2000. After his retirement, fishing was his favorite hobby.
He is survived by his wife, Leona Talbott; his son and daughter-in-law, Kim and Laurie Shanafelt Talbott; his daughter and son-in-law, Rita Talbott and Les Craft; grandchildren, Katie, Holly, and Mary Talbott, Crystal Craft and Brian Hamm, and Joshua Craft; great-granddaughter, Ella Daisy Hamm; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Ann Jester Talbott, and Jim and Peggy Talbott; sisters and brother-in-law, Lois Talbott and Carl Miller and Joan Talbott Riffle; and many uncles, aunts, and cousins on both sides. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Brenda Sue Talbott; and brothers, Darwin, Richard, William, and Doyne Talbott.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd., Mansfield conducted by Rev. Ron Conaway, Sr. Military Honors conducted by the Richland County Joint Veteran's Burial Detail will follow the service at the funeral home. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mansfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, MedCentral Hospice, or Mansfield Fire Department Station #3.
