
Russell J. Berry, 81, of Ashland, died Friday, June 10, 2011 at Hospice of North Central Ohio. Born November 15, 1929 in Adario, he was the son of Wade H. and Elsie M. Taylor Berry. Russell had worked at Tappan for 15 years, worked construction in Ontario and Dayton, and retired from the City of Ashland where he worked for the Street Department. He was a member of Park St. Brethren Church and also attended New Life Community Church. Russell was also a member of the Mansfield Chapter of the Society for Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America. He loved sports like baseball, fast pitch, softball, and The Ohio State Buckeyes, most of all Russell loved being with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Keener Berry of Ashland; sons, Dennis Rhonda Berry of Mansfield, Robert S. Berry of Houston, TX, Jeff Carol Berry and Stephen Berry, both of Ashland; daughter, Elizabeth Berry of Ashland; grandchildren, Jill Berry, Ray Berry, Chris Berry, David Berry, and Hannah Berry; great grandson, Tyson Dancy; sisters, Carol John McCormack of Shelby and Sandra Gary Whitcomb of Ashland; and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Louise Berry.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 308 Claremont Ave., Ashland. Friends may call two hours prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Adario Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio, Park St. Brethren Church, or New Life Community Church.
