Russell Frederick Minch, Jr., age 85, of Mansfield, passed away at Crestwood Care Center on Saturday, February 14, 2026. He was born August 30, 1940, in Mansfield, OH, and was the son of Luella (Weaver) and Russell Frederick Minch, Sr.
He was a proud 1958 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School, where he was an active member of the Marching Band and participated in numerous championship performances. Following graduation, Russell attended a small business college in Mansfield, where he studied drafting and began preparing for a lifelong career in the field. He was also a dedicated member of a Master Singers men’s chorus, sharing his love of music through song. He also enjoyed listening to classical music.
Russell devoted 34 years of his professional life to working as a draftsman. He began his career at Westinghouse, later continued at Ideal Electric, and eventually retired from Therm-O-Disc. His strong work ethic and steady commitment were hallmarks of his career.
In 1965, he married Patricia Cover, beginning a beautiful partnership that spanned 60 years. Together they built a life centered on love, faith, and shared interests. One of Russell’s greatest joys was photography, a passion passed down by his father. Russell and Patricia shared this hobby for nearly three decades, capturing memories and moments side by side.
Russell is survived by his wife, Patricia L. (Cover) Minch; three sons, Donald, Robert, and Charles Minch; his grandchildren, of Donald and Sarah: Sophie, Annalisel, Cassandra, and Katherine Minch; and his brother, Thomas Minch.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Luella (Weaver) and Russell Frederick Minch, Sr., and in-laws, Donald and Martha Cover.
Family and friends may visit from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Wappner Funeral Directors-Mansfield, 98 S. Diamond Street. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at Wappner Funeral Directors-Mansfield. Russell will be laid to rest in Mansfield Cemetery.
