
Russell Shields, 41, of Mansfield, died early Monday morning, December 12, 2005, at his home after a courageous yearlong battle with cancer. Born January 22, 1964, in Mansfield to Russell and Laura Shields. He was a 1982 graduate of Madison High School and was employed as a rural mail carrier with the U.S. Post Office. Russell loved watching his daughter play soccer from grade school through college. He loved coaching Madison baseball and basketball youth leagues while his son played. Russell enjoyed playing softball, poker and euchre with his buddies.
He is survived by his wife, Tina Stephan Shields; daughter, Cheri Shields of Mansfield; son, Brett Shields of Mansfield; parents, Russell and Laura Shields of Mansfield; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jack and Karen Stephan of Mansfield; brother, Daryl Shields of Mansfield; sister, April and Mike Hale of Willard; grandmother, Una Jaynes of Mansfield; two nieces, Athena Shields of Marysville and Maci Myers of Mansfield; brother and sister-in-law, Bryan and Angie Myers of Mansfield; large extended family in Virginia; and many good friends in the Mansfield and surrounding areas. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Deddrick Shields.
Friends may call Thursday, December 15 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
