
Ruth L. Winkler Hammer, 88, of Mansfield, died early Monday morning, May 11, 2009, at Lexington Court Care Center. Born November 3, 1920, in Mansfield, she was the daughter of Frederick and Jessie Snyder Winkler. She graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1939. Ruth retired from Westinghouse Corp. after 30 years of service as an assembly line worker, where she enjoyed being involved with Westinghouse Retiree Club. She attended Crossroads Community Church and was a member of the Lexington Senior Civic Center. She and her husband, Frank, enjoyed dancing, spending their winters in Florida and summers in East Harbor on Lake Erie. Ruth was a very detail oriented person and enjoyed cross stitch, Bingo, and sending cards for all occasions.
She is survived by two sons, Stephen A. Deborah Hammer, Sr. and Paul F. Diana Hammer, all of Mansfield; a granddaughter, Carol Brian Houseworth; four grandsons, Michael Hammer, Stephen Tammy Hammer, Jr., Davitt Stacey Hammer, all of Mansfield, and Scott Lindy Hammer of Oklahoma City, OK; seven great-grandchildren, Aiden and Issac Hammer, Alexa and Stepheni Hammer, Cassandra and Madelyn Biedrzycki, Olivia Houseworth, and two new babies due this summer; a sister, Martha Wilhelm; a brother-in-law, Clifford Hammer of Mansfield; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank P. Hammer; parents; sister, Florence Winkler; and brother, Ralph Winkler.
Friends may visit from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Thursday, May 14, 2009, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Ron Biddle officiating. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made in care of the family.
