
Ruth M. Newman, 91, of Mansfield, died peacefully September 5, 2009 at the Hospice House of North Central Ohio in Ashland, Ohio after a long illness. Born March 26, 1918 in Marion, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Blanche Newell, Columbiana, Ohio.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Dr. Rev. William C. Newman; two daughters and sons-in-law, Becky and Ed Hoffmann of Mansfield, Kathy and Mark Endres of Victoria, Minnesota; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard Newell of Columbiana; and one sister, Ada Wilhelm of Salem, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Rosalie M. Wells; son, Richard N. Newman; and two grandchildren, Ryan and Renee Hoffmann; two sisters, Frances Sloan and Edith Wilhelm; and two brothers, John Newell and William Newell.
Ruth was a graduate of Mt. Union College, class of 1940, and a former student at Lexington Theological Seminary in Lexington, Kentucky. Ruth was a member of the First Christian Church, Mansfield, Ohio for 52 years where she was an active member of the Christian Women's Fellowship and helped establish the church library. Ruth worked as a school librarian at Appleseed Junior High for 13 years before her retirement in 1976.
A memorial service to celebrate Ruth's life will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2009 at the First Christian Church at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Chris Whitehead officiating.
