
Ruth R. Parks-Hornung, 62, of Mansfield, died Saturday, December 10, 2005, at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital after a brief illness. Born October 30, 1943, in London, West Virginia, she was the daughter of Haywood L. and Clara M. Lee Parks. Mrs. Hornung graduated from Oakland High School in Oakland, California. She resided in California from 1959 to 1963 before returning to Mansfield. She was a member of the American Business Womenfs Association. She had worked as a licensed practical nurse for over 20 years with several facilities in Mansfield until being stricken with Post Polio Syndrome. Before her illness, she enjoyed bowling, reading and various games.
She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Philip Hornung; mother, Clara Carpenter of Mansfield; five children, David K. Parks, Danielle K. Parks, Brigitte M. Coles, all of Mansfield, Philip L. Hornung of Dayton and Amanda A. Hornung of Philadelphia, Pa.; five grandchildren, Jerry Lee Brookins II, Felicity Alt, Me'Nawsha Parks, Draven Parks and Davonna Parks; two sisters, Mae Green of Spartanburg, S. Carolina and Lucretia McKinney of Mansfield; five nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Mary Kay Mark Kiamy; a brother-in-law, David M. Iris Hornung; and special friends, Renatha Gilmore, Andrea Massey and Mickie Thompson, all of Mansfield. Her father preceded her in death.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, December 14, at 1:00 p.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, officiated by Rev. Shirley Jordan. Friends and family may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Easter Seals, American Heart Association or the Candice Williams Foundation.
