Shirley A. Allen-Koontz

Shirley A. Allen-Koontz, 82, of Mansfield, passed away Monday, January 15, 2018 at Arbors at Mifflin. Born March 31, 1935 in Navarre, Ohio, she was the daughter of William and Beatrice (Lenhart) Berns.

She was a 1953 graduate of Union High School and worked as a clerk for the Mansfield Branch of the United States Postal Service for 15 years and prior to that, for Mansfield Tire. Shirley was a very friendly person who was always happy. She loved to travel having traveled all over the United States and to Spain even marrying her husband, Bill, in Hawaii.

She is survived by her husband, William "Bill" Koontz; three children, Terry (Karen) Allen, Michael (Jeanette) Allen and Diana Castle (Tim Hambly); seven grandchildren, Kevin Allen, Jessica (Chad) McCarty, Jennifer Dura, Benjamin (Megan) Allen, Christopher Pajot, Dennis (Amanda) Allen and Danielle Castle-Sheridan (Joe Sheridan); 10 great grandchildren; and one great great grandson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Allen; and a brother, John Berns.

Friends may call from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street, Mansfield. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the funeral home conducted by Pastor Dan Clouse. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
