Shirley Jane Rankin Lewis, age 93, originally of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away on Monday, January 28, 2019, at Crown Pointe Care Center in Columbus, Ohio. Born in Crestline, Ohio, on January 7, 1926, Lewis was an only child born to Mabel (Howell) Margaret and James Frederick Rankin. She was a ‘daddy’s girl’ and her parents called her Skeeter because she was petite.
Lewis was a life-long member of the First Congregational Church of Mansfield. She also worked for many years as a line clerk for Ohio Edison Company and as a sales clerk at O’Neil’s/May Company/Kauffman’s at the Richland Mall. Lewis loved helping people and routinely went out of her way to assist customers and co-workers.
Affectionately called ‘Mago’ by her family, Lewis is survived by four daughters; Dana (Dale) Lewis Strimple of Flushing, Michigan, Laurel K. Lewis and Robin (David) Robinson, both of Columbus, Ohio, and Jill (Robert) Lewis Von Haase of Mansfield, Ohio. She has seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all of whom she is extremely proud. Lewis was preceded in death by daughter Lizbeth Jane Lewis (1953) and grandson Samuel Alfred Robinson (1990).
Lewis was a wonderful mother who taught her daughters about independence, grace, and dignity. She loved the large Lewis family she married into and always wanted to absorb every ounce of noise, activity, and commotion of family gatherings. Lewis had an incredibly big heart that overflowed with compassion, kindness, and generosity. And most importantly, she taught her daughters well.
A private graveside service will be held for immediate family with the help of the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Burial will be at Mansfield Memorial Park in Ontario, Ohio.
