Stanley R. Cichanowicz, 77, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday morning, January 19, 2017, after a valiant battle with cancer. Born February 23, 1939 in Dayton, Ohio to Charles and Anna (Przybilski) Cichanowicz, he grew up in a big family, the second youngest of seven children. A graduate of Chaminade High School, Stan went on to The University of Dayton, and then decided to join the Army. After a two year enlistment serving with the 529th Military Police Company in Heidelberg, Germany, he returned to UD where he completed his history degree. While working in Dayton at Procter & Gamble Company, he met the love of his life and best friend, Chris Kingsley. Married 49 years, they embraced family, friends and cherished times together.
Stan is survived by his wife Chris, children Deb Olson (Mark), Becky Pittman (Zac) and four grandchildren, Hal and Jill Olson and Haley and Mitchell Pittman, along with his brothers Henry, Ed (Pat), and Chuck. He is preceded in death by his brother Joe and his sisters Theresa Piekutowski and Edith Lokai.
A resident of Mansfield for 32 years, Stan enjoyed a long career as the Human Resource Manager at General Electric Company in Bucyrus, Ohio. He was a member and leader at First English Lutheran Church, giving his time and talent to the choir, church council, and the finance and personnel committees. He also served as an assisting minister and home visitor.
Beyond his dedication to his church, Stan was also a member of the Ontario Lions Club and past member of the Bucyrus Rotary Club. He previously served on the Bucyrus Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and served as Industrial Chairman of the Bucyrus United Way. In his retirement he served many years as secretary of the Mansfield Interchurch Council and provided transportation to visually impaired members of the Low Vision Support Group.
Stan enjoyed perch fishing on Lake Erie, mushroom hunting in the woods and watching University of Dayton Flyers win basketball games. Stan will be remembered for his generous heart and love for family, not to mention his good sense of humor and quick wit. The man never heard a pun he didn't like.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to either First English Lutheran Church's Renewing God's House, the Malawi Orphan Care Project or The Ohio State James Cancer Center.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 22, 2017, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, Ontario. The funeral service will be held Monday, January 23, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at First English Lutheran Church, 53 Park Avenue West, Mansfield, where additional vistitation hours will be from 10:30 - 11:00 a.m. Private burial will be held in Mansfield Memorial Park at a later date.
