Susan Payne

Susan Elaine Gardiner Payne, 60, of W. Augustine Ave., died Sunday, September 25, 2005, at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital after a sudden illness. She was born December 3, 1944, in Mansfield, to Ward H. Jr. and Katherine I. Cory Gardiner, who both preceded her in death. She worked for Mansfield Property Management Corp., Drapery Jeep in Mansfield and was also a homemaker. She loved her husband, children and grandchildren dearly.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Harold Payne, whom she married April 21, 1963 in Mansfield; two daughters and a son-in-law, Lisa Payne, Monica and Robert Bair, all of Mansfield; one son, Scott Payne and his girlfriend, Christy Wade, both of Mansfield; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Charlotte Burchett and Ernest Cornett of Marion, Ill., Joyce Gardiner and Ronnie Murphy of Mansfield, and JoAnne Gardiner and Ralph Kennard of Willard; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Charles and Alice Robison of Gahanna and Larry Burchett of Wesley Chapel, Fla.; two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law, Lavon Workman and Drenn and Carol Workman, all of Mansfield; three granddaughters, Ashley Bair, Shala Payne and Sierra Wade, all of Mansfield; two grandsons, Alec Bair and Aaron Wade, of Mansfield; nieces and nephews, Todd Kennard of Imlay City, Mich., Beth Kennard of Monroeville, Kimberly Wincek of Canton, Heather Robison of Gahanna, Troy Jarrett of Ashland, Julie Butler and Kenneth Butler, both of Morehead, Ky., Andrew Workman of Mansfield, and Donna Rivera of Deming, New Mexico; seven great-nieces and great-nephews; several cousins, and special friends, Sue and Bob Winter, Jan and Tom Morrison, all of Mansfield, and Judy and Lawrence Kunkle of Lexington. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Linda Payne and brother, Daryl Gardiner Jarrett.

Friends may call Wednesday, September 28 from 6-8 p.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Burial will be held Friday, September 30, at 2:00 p.m. at Mansfield Cemetery, conducted by Rev. Diane Bair.
