Thelma Day

Born January 1, 1933 in Mansfield, she was the daughter of Glenn and Clara (Bottorf) Hammett. She was employed by Westinghouse from 1965 through 1975 when she became self employed and co-owner of Ron’s Litho printing business of Mansfield, Ohio with her husband, Ron and continued working until she passed. Irene loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a lifelong member of The First Christian Church where she was active as a Deacon and a greeter. She loved to cook and read. A cancer survivor, she was actively involved and supported the Relay for Life charity for many years. She was also a member of MedCentral Fitness Center where she enjoyed exercising and spending time with her friends. She belonged to the Richland County AARP chapter, was a 10 year volunteer with the Spirit Ohio Sports Academy and enjoyed traveling and socializing with her friends. She was also involved in her neighborhoods watch program and was a volunteer for the clean-up project for Liberty Park.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Ronald G. Day; a son, David McFadden; daughters and sons-in-law, Shirlee and Stephen Furey of Milan, Ohio, Iva and Herb Ackermann of Buford, GA, Debee McFadden of Nashville, TN and Rhonda and Steve Fuller of Mansfield; nine grandchildren, Trudi Cheek, Joe Ackermann, Steven (Cecilia) Ackermann, Trisha (Joey) English, Ryan Day, Jennifer (Joe) Williamson, Amanda Furey, Keaton Fuller and Kelsey Fuller; nine great grandchildren, Paige Smith, Austin Ackermann, Judson Cheek, Trinity English, Nate Lynch, Chase Ackermann, Talan English, Georgia Ackermann and Jaycee English whom she loved very much; sister, Marlene Stadjuhar of Seattle, WA; and a brother and sister-in-law, Arthur “Art” and Velma Hammett of Mansfield, OH. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Clara Day Murphree; and a brother, Eugene “Gene” Hammett.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street, Mansfield. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the funeral home conducted by Rev. Chris Whitehead. Burial will follow in Caesarea Cemetery.
