
Toney L.C. Hemphill, 79, of 2943 Lucas-Perrysville Road died Tuesday, May 1, 2001 at Briarwood Place after an extended illness. Mr. Hemphill was born August 11, 1921 in Oakgrove, Louisiana to the late Thomas and Agnes Turnbow Hemphill. He was a retired truck driver with Matlack Trucking and was a Mansfield area resident for the past five years. Mr. Hemphill was a veteran of the United States Army serving during WWII.
He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law: Paulette and Henry Gassaway of Lucas, Ann and Fran Braden of California, and Debbie and Gary Holmes of Louisiana; six grandchildren: Theresa and her spouse, Charles Eyerly; Joseph and his spouse Angie Gassaway; Richie and his spouse, Samantha Gassaway; Randi Holmes, Rachael Braden and Tori Holmes: eight great-grandchildren; Brice, Chantil, Sierra, Henry, Anthony, Brandon, Austin, Adam: one brother; Dub Hemphill of Florida: three sisters; Bessie Oakes and Earline Lepard of Mississippi, Lessie Creel of Louisiana: and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: wife; Paralee: two brothers; Herman and Johnny Hemphill; and three sisters; Lill, Maxine, and Gladys.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors one hour prior to funeral services, which will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, conducted by Rev. Frank Dunkle. Burial will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery.
