Virginia Eaton Applegate, 82, of Mansfield, OH, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, surrounded by family in Chagrin Falls, OH. She was born on March 12, 1942, in Mansfield, OH, to the late Charles and Mary (Jurgens) Eaton.
Virginia was a proud graduate of Mansfield St. Peter's Catholic School, Class of 1960, and cherished the opportunity to reconnect with classmates at reunions held every six months. She continued her education at Mt. Carmel College of Nursing in Columbus and went on to care for others with great compassion in her roles at University Hospital (OSU) Obstetrics and the Richland County Health Department.
On May 3, 1969, Virginia married the love of her life, Dr. Raymond E. Applegate. She devoted herself to her family. Her greatest joy was raising her two beloved sons. Her love for family extended to her grandchildren, with whom she shared many special moments.
Virginia was an active member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and a proud participant in the Buckeye Garden Club. Outside of her community work, she enjoyed playing cards, knitting, and cooking. She loved to travel, especially to visit her grandchildren in New Hampshire, a place she cherished deeply.
Virginia is survived by her children, Andrew Applegate of Brookline, NH and Dr. Gregory Applegate of Pepper Pike, OH; her grandchildren, Matthew Applegate and Benjamin Applegate; her sisters, Mary Jane (John) Lump of Mansfield, OH and Susan (Rodney) Clagg of Bellville, OH; her brother, Thomas Eaton of Columbus, OH; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond; and her brother, Charles Eaton, Jr.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 3, 2025, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. A Vigil will follow at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 104 W. 1st St., Mansfield, officiated by Father John Miller. Virginia will be laid to rest at Mansfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Peter's Catholic Church.
