
Walter J. 'Cannonball' Gannon, 79, of Mansfield, died Monday night, July 7, 2003 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. Mr. Gannon was born March 29, 1924 in Haysville, Ohio residing in the Mansfield area all of his life. He retired from Operating Engineers after 50 plus years of services and was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. Mr. Gannon was a member of N.R.A. and A.A.R.P. Cannonball enjoyed western movies and tending to his convertible cars.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, JoAnne and Eric Orewiler of Hernando, Florida; one grandson, Robert Green of Mansfield; two great-granddaughters, Alisha and Jewel; two sisters, Lucille Chandler and Jane Weitzel and one brother, Charles Gannon all of Ashland; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter C. and Susie Gannon; his wife, Helen Gannon in April of 2003; one sister, Thelma Gannon; and two brothers, Oscar and Kenneth Gannon.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors on Thursday, July 10, 2003 from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to funeral services, which will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park.
