
William T. Evans, 74, of Mansfield, died Monday, January 3, 2011, at MedCentral Mansfield following an extended illness. Born August 31, 1936, in Nelsonville, Ohio, he was the son of Edward and Regina Davis Evans. A veteran of the United States Navy, he retired from United Telephone in 1982. He recently completed 30 years of AA and was a member of AARP. He enjoyed going to WalMart to shop, the Garfield comic strip, his son Tim's dog, Itty Bitty and his granddaughter's dog, Abby. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye's, Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians fan, but his greatest joy were his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary DeWeese Evans; a daughter, Connie Gregory of Norwalk; two sons, Bill Joan Evans and Tim Evans "Alice" all of Mansfield; grandchildren, Heather David Eicher of Perrysville, Lisa Gregory of Shelby, Latrisha Jeremy Stevens of Ashland, Alisha Evans of Mansfield, Brittney Hanners of Shelby and Jessica Evans of Germany; great grandchildren, Brent and Venessa Eicher, Landen and Ayden Perry and Ethan Bennett; two sisters, Jean McCoy of Chauncey, OH and Sharon Stalder of Nelsonville, OH; three brothers-in-law, Mervin Rosa Lee DeWeese of Akron, Robert DeWeese of Ocala, FL and Dale DeWeese of PA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, William T. Evans; a niece, Cathy Wakeland; a nephew, Kerry DeWeese; and two brothers-in-law, Robert McCoy and Charles Stalder.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, January 6, 2011, at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 7, 2011, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
