William E. 'Wild Bill' Grandon, 91 of Shelby, OH, passed away on April 23, 2011 at Crestwood Care Center. He was born on November 30, 1919 in Mansfield, to the Late Chester E. and Wilhelmina 'Minnie' Damlos Grandon, and resided in the area all of his life. He graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1939, and then entered the United States Air Force. While he was proudly serving our country during WWII, stateside in Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi, he worked as an airplane mechanic. Following his military career, he began a new career at Dominion Electric in Mansfield, and from that moment, upon his return, he never drove an automobile again. Bill could be seen all over Mansfield, walking wherever he needed to go, or accepting a ride from others. He was a very unique guy, almost as unique as the creative handwriting that he possessed. Bill would later go on to retire from Westinghouse, where he worked in the parts department.
Surviving is his sister, Marilyn Kleer of Shelby, Ohio; two nephews, Jim Gail Kleer of Bucyrus, Ohio, and Steve Karen Kleer of Lima, Ohio; a niece, Peggy Kleer of Columbus; and two great nephews, Adam and Aaron Kleer. Preceding Bill in his death is his dear parents; a sister Naomi John Carr; and a brother-in-law, John Kleer.
Private graveside services, with military honors will be held at a later date. The Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family of William E. Grandon.
