
William ''Butter'' Baker Hammett, 53, of Butler, Ohio died Tuesday, July 31, 2001 in his home surrounded by his loving family following an extended illness. Mr. Hammett was born May 11, 1948 in Mansfield, Ohio residing in the Richland County area all of his life. He retired from General Motors where he was a tool and die maker and a loyal member of UAW Local 549 for 31 years. ''Butter'' was a Master Mason of Mansfield Lodge 35 F. & A.M. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and sportsman. He attended the First Christian Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Holly Hammett; son William B. Hammett II Lori and granddaughters Erin and Ashley of Dublin, son Jason A. Hammett Michelle of Dublin, daughter Larenda J. Hammett of Bucyrus, and son Robert K. Hammett of Butler; and a sister Direnda Carroll Larry and nieces Jill and Christen of Las Vegas, Nevada. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert R. and F. Jean Griffith Hammett; and a sister, Ladonna Hammett.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where Masonic services will be held at 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home conducted by Rev. Faith Proietti. Burial will be in Bunker Hill Cemetery in Butler, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to MedCentral Hospice or Visiting Nurses Association.
