
William Richard Rigney, Sr., 76, of Mansfield, died early Friday morning, September 17, 2004 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. He was born July 4, 1928, in Glouster, Ohio to Clarence Richard and Anna Elizabeth McClelland Rigney and was a Mansfield area resident since 1953. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years of service as a mail carrier and also had worked as a security guard at The Ohio State University. William attended Wyandotte Freewill Baptist Church. He was a member of the Mansfield Shrine Club, Mansfield Masonic Lodge #35, F. &A.M., was a 32nd degree Mason, and also a life member of V.F.W. Post #9943. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. William and his loving wife enjoyed watching Cleveland Indians baseball together.
He is survived by his wife, Etta Mae Horsley Rigney; son, William Rigney, Jr. of Bellville; sister, Mauna June West of Mansfield; nieces and their spouses, Joyce A. and Jerry Healea of Florida, Linda S. and Donald Schnitzer of Mansfield; great-nephews and their spouses, Brian T. and Tammy Healea of Mt. Gilead and Stephan M. and Jenny Healea of Upper Sandusky; great-nieces and their spouses, Kerry and Bradley Duff, and Amy M. and Garth Eldridge, all of Mansfield; two stepdaughters and their spouses, Wanda and Jon Ahles of Mansfield, Patricia and Ken Tesso of Brook Park; step-grandchildren, Melissa Solon, Merriah Shade, Tearreanna Tesso, Amber Phelps and Ashley Phelps; sisters-in-law, Margaret Kinney and Angie Helbig of Mansfield and Lucy Elliott and Faye Wilson of Shelby; brothers-in-law, Stanley Horsley of Lucas, Wayne Horsley and Mike Horsley of Mansfield; numerous great-nieces and nephews; and many church friends and friends from his daily trips to McDonalds. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Nancy Lee Burkhart Rigney in 1977 and brother-in-law, Robert Horsley.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, Monday, September 20 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Brian Phillips. Military graveside services will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Park.
