

Gabriel is survived by his son Kevin McCarthy and his daughter Mercedes Hickey as well as his grandchildren, Kyle, Colin and Megan McCarthy along with Wil and Katherine Hickey and his siblings Noelle Twomey, Clare Walsh and Karl McCarthy. Gabriel is predeceased by his mother Eileen and father Daniel McCarthy along with his brother Declan McCarthy and his daughter Jill Ann McCarthy.
Gabriel grew up in Cork, Ireland as the youngest of five children. He served a brief stint in The Royal Air Force as a photographer in planes. He lived in Cork until he fell in love with Marykay while working as a photographer at the Blarney Stone. He moved to America, joined the U.S. Army, and became a citizen. Gabriel proudly served in the United States Army, dedicating several years of his life to his country. His military service was a formative chapter, instilling in him a sense of duty and resilience that he carried throughout his life.
Gabriel loved to have a lot of fun having traveled and toured much of Europe and America. He had an entrepreneurial spirit having started and owned several of his own transportation and food service companies. Gabriel had a unique tack for making friends wherever he went with his outgoing personality and his infectious laugh. He was known to his grandchildren as B-Bop and will be remembered by them for his eccentric gifts.
A private memorial service will be held on January 8, 2026, at the Arizona Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery located at 15950 N. Luckett Road, Marana, AZ 85653 beginning at 9:00 AM. Family and those who knew Gabriel are welcome to gather, share memories, and find peace in their own ways.
