Joseph F. Cicero

Joseph F. Cicero died on August 9, 2019. He was born in Frontenac, Kansas on March 14, 1934. He moved to Tucson, Arizona in August of 1959. He was preceded in death by his father Sam Cicero, mother Stella Cicero, and sister Marian Cicero. He’s survived by his widow Janet (Herd) Cicero, daughter Kellie Bell, son Patrick Cicero, sister Marilyn Sarley (Frontenac, KS), and brother Marvin Cicero (Joplin, MO).  He had three grandchildren, Christopher McClure, Chauncey Bell, and Kyleigh Lippert. He also had four great grandchildren.

He was a Korean War veteran serving in the U.S.  Army from 1954 through 1962.

He received a B.S. and M.S. in Education from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg Kansas, with additional coursework taken at the University of Arizona, Northern Arizona University, and Western Washington State College.

He spent 32 years teaching graphic arts and printing at Pueblo High School in Tucson Arizona. He also taught printing for the Manpower Training Program, TUSD Adult Evening School, and was a part-time associate professor for Pima Community College during his career.

He was a member of the International Graphic Arts Association, Tucson Lithographers Association, National Education Association, Arizona Education Association, and Tucson Education Association.

In 1998 he received the Lyle Isabel award from the Tucson Lithographers Association.  In 2004, the TUSD School Board approved re-naming the Pueblo High School technology building as “The Joseph F. Cicero Technology Building”.  In 2005 the Outstanding Alumni award was presented to him by Frontenac High School.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Tucson Arizona since 1959.

Honoring his request, no memorial service is planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pima Animal Care Center or to the Southern Arizona Food Bank.
