Kevin Burroughs Puyear, 70, passed away unexpectedly in his home on March 16, 2026. He was born August 24, 1955, in Battle Creek , Michigan, to David and Joan Puyear. As a child, Kevin had turberculosis and his parents decided to move to Tucson, Arizona in 1961, to better his health. They resided on the Eastside of town.
Kevin attended Palo Verde High School where he was part of the 1973 AAA State Championship football team. After graduating in 1974, he enlisted in The United States Marine Corps. After his service, he was employed with the Asarco Mining Company where he worked for 36 years.
In 1978, he met his wife, Cindy, and they were married on October 27, 1979. They raised twin children, Tony and Sandy, and were married 46 years.
Kevin was involved with his church, where he was in youth ministry. He became a part of Promise Keepers and later became a chaplain. Kevin volunteered at the Veterans Hospital. He would help the Chaplain type and perform other small office details. Kevin loved to sit and talk with veterans and just be the listening ear.
Kevin loved biking, working out and staying in shape. He participated in several El Tour de Tucson cycling races. He loved being outdoors, whether it was hiking or going down water slides. He loved music, classic cars, motorcycles, planes and the Pima County Fair. He enjoyed spending most of the weekend nights, dancing with the love of his life, at The Maverick 2-stepping. He loved his dog, Mamitas, who always laid by him and kept him company. He was a die hard Chicago Bears fan and he met Dick Butkus at a training camp.
Most of all, he loved his grandchildren. He came up with the silliest but sweetest nicknames for them. He loved their baby laughs and had such joy playing with them. He tried to be involved as much as possible and was always there.
Kevin was an amazing husband, father, papa and friend. He seemed to impact the lives of everyone he met. He was loved by many. Kevin's legacy will live on in everyone he touched. His biggest achievement was believing in Jesus Christ and now we can rest knowing we will see him again.
He will be greatly missed and loved forever.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy of 46 years. His 2 children, Anthony (Osiris) Nelson, Sandra (Raymond) Benge, 7 grandchildren, Nadiya (Ivan) Ortiz, Kevin, Ariah, Brianna, Caden, Andrew and Bryant, and 1 brother Kerry Puyear, 1 niece Kellie Beard, 3 nephews, Clay Smith, Courtney Puyear, and Christopher (Jennifer) Puyear
