Laura Wrentmore Thompson, 62, stepped gently into the kingdom of heaven, while at home in Tucson, AZ on September 20th at 12:30am, surrounded and held with love and tenderness, with Keith Urban playing softly nearby.
Laura was a devoted wife, an extraordinary mother, and a gentle and caring “G-ma”. She shared her beautiful life with her incredibly caring husband, Curt, and raised her sons, Jae and Jake, with a love that shaped them in ways that will stay with them forever. She was also a cherished mother-in-law to Katie and a beloved grandmother to Alora, who is named after her.
Laura had a way of making people feel special simply by being in their presence. She had a laugh that was music to our ears and a smile that could make anyone feel seen. She was beautiful in every sense of the word and she was the kind of woman who could walk into a room and turn heads. She was a true cheerleader, always rooting for those she loved and was lifting up the spirits of everyone who knew her.
Laura loved tennis and was an incredibly talented player. She brought the same spirit to the court that she brought to so much of her life: strength, determination, grace, and joy. But her greatest love was always her family. She was, above all else, an incredible mother and wife, and the love she gave so freely will continue through the people she leaves behind.
Laura spent her final years living with dementia, a long and difficult illness that gradually took pieces of her from those who loved her. But dementia was never the whole of Laura. She was a woman who laughed loudly, loved deeply, played a hell of a game of tennis, loved dogs and red wine, and made the people around her feel loved and important.
She is survived by her husband, Curt; her sons, Jae (Katie) and Jake; her granddaughter, Alora; her mother and step-father, Patty and Jack; her sisters, Tish and Susie (Scot); and her brother, Dan (Susan). Laura was preceded in death by her father, John; Tish’s husband, Mark; and her sister, Kim; along with the many friends and family members whose lives she touched..
She will be profoundly missed, deeply remembered, and carried forward in the lives of everyone who loved her.
May she rest peacefully dancing in heaven, and may the sound of her laughter and bright smile stay with us for the rest of our days.
