Bob was born in Kingston, Tennessee on August 31, 1942 to Robert and Elizabeth McClure. After graduating from Roane County H.S., where he was a star football player, he proudly enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Bob completed training at Bolling AFB in Washington D. C. and Allied Officers School at Maxwell AFB in Alabama. Bob was then assigned to Hahn AFB, Germany where he played football as the starting quarterback for the Hahn Hawks.
Tucson has been his home for the last 43 years. Bob’s passion was woodworking. Whether he was building wooden toys, porch swings, kitchen cabinets, or million dollar foothills homes, being creative with wood brought him great pleasure!
An eternal optimist, who never believed in complaining, Bob faced everyday head-on with courage and strength. When his feet hit the floor each morning, it was full speed ahead with a song and a smile.
Bob’s life was defined by his faith in God, his generosity and his optimism. He had a servant’s heart and was always looking for ways to help anyone in need. Bob never met a stranger. His vivacious personality and charming Southern drawl quickly put everyone at ease.
Bob also loved to lure his friends into a good argument. Good luck to anyone that took the bait….. he could win any argument and frustrate his victim with his quick wit and unconventional logic! But they couldn’t stay mad for long…. he would laugh until his shoulders shook up and down and draw them back in with his twinkling eyes and big grin.
Bob was an avid sports enthusiast and devoted father. As much as he enjoyed all sports both as a spectator and participant, his love for his children brought him the greatest joy! Bragging about them may have been his favorite hobby. He enjoyed watching his daughters’ Katie and Marnie’s swim meets, walking the sidelines of his son Ian’s football games or watching his son Matt’s golf tournaments. As their biggest fan he loved being there to cheer them on!
Bob is survived by his loving wife Sarah of 39 years and their son Matt. Bob is also survived by children from his first marriage: Ian, Marnie and husband Tracy, Katie and husband Mike, Kevin and wife Rose; six grandchildren: Jake, Eli, Reilly, Jaden, Ava, and Keane; his brothers John and wife Carolyn, Joe and wife Sheila. He was preceded in death by daughter Leslie, brother William and parents Robert and Elizabeth McClure.
