Alvin was born on March 1, 1944 in Round Mountain, TX, to Sequindino “Cune” and Apolonia (Ribera) Gutierrez. He was one of twelve children. Alvin attended Johnson City High School through the tenth grade and began his lifetime plumbing career a few years later as a Journeyman in Austin. From there, he became licensed and eventually earned the distinction of Master plumber while working alongside his brother, Lino, at their namesake company L&A Plumbing serving Marble Falls and the surrounding area. After more than forty years together, Alvin founded AG Plumbing. It was his great pleasure to share his passion by working with brothers, his son, his grandson, and a few nephews at various times in his career. Alvin built long-lasting relationships with contractors, suppliers, and customers and was proud to call them friends.
Alvin married Carmen Castaneda in November of 1967. Together they raised one son, Alanzo, and two daughters, Liza and Diana. They recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary amidst enchiladas, his favorite, and mariachis, hers. They called Round Mountain their home. Alvin served the city as Alderman for several years and went on to become the Mayor. He was the current sitting Mayor at the time of his death.
As a young child and teen, Alvin’s greatest joy was playing and watching baseball with his brothers. In later years, Alvin could be found fishing, golfing, playing cards, watching old Westerns and spending time with his grandchildren.
