Arthur Ray Treadway of Granite Shoals, Texas passed away on October 15th, 2022, surrounded by family. Ray was born October 31st, 1947, to the late James Carol Treadway and Marilyn S. Treadway. Ray is survived by his loving wife, Kathey Treadway, his three children, James, Sam and Kristina, 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, his brother Jim and Holly Treadway, and his sister Betsy and Allen Oney.
Ray was raised and lived his childhood in west Texas around the area of San Angelo. In 1966 Ray joined the United States Navy and was honorably discharged after his dedicated service. Ray served aboard the USS Biddle CG-34 for most of his time in the Navy and proudly served with his brother Jim. He loved to talk about those years as being some of his most memorable. Ray was a proud veteran and was no Pollywog. He could be seen in his later years proudly wearing his Vietnam Veteran hat wherever he went.
After Ray was discharged from the Navy, he went to work at West Texas Utilities which started a new chapter in his life where he would build more memorable times and met his future wife, Kathey, who would later have his three children. In 1972 Ray took a position with the LCRA at a new power plant that was recently built right here in the highland lakes, the Ferguson Power plant. He was hired by the LCRA as a Steam Plant Operator and was quickly recognized for his leadership. Ray had a strong work ethic and valued building others up he worked with. As a result, he was promoted to A Plant Supervisor in 1977. During these early years that Ray was at the LCRA, Kathey moved to the Marble Falls area with her brother Gary and continued to date Ray up until they were married in Marble Falls on June 1st, 1974. Ray and Kathy were married at the First Baptist church in Marble Falls and for 48 years Ray loved and served his wife as a faithful and dedicated husband. This model of service was clearly valued, recognized, and respected among his peers and his employer, the LCRA.
Ray worked for the LCRA for 30 years before retiring in 2004. During his time at the LCRA, Ray was recognized on countless occasions for his contribution and dedication to the LCRA’s success and mission and for being an important part of the LCRA team. His work ethic was not only recognized on the job, but his employer noticed that Ray’s character and values extended beyond his employment and was displayed off the job as well. In 2004, at his retirement the LCRA recognized his leadership by describing him as a sensitive and caring leader that exhibited a model for others he worked with as a father that is actively engaged in his family life. LCRA also recognized the countless hours that Ray gave back to the community as a volunteer. Ray volunteered with the Meals on Wheels locally as did his mother, and he led volunteer efforts with the Marble Falls Band Boosters serving for nearly 10 years in that organization.
Ray’s life was not all about work either. He enjoyed his time off and was a fanatic Dallas Cowboys fan who never missed a game. He loved the Cowboys and the game of football so much that you will find a brick at the new stadium in Arlington with his and Kathey’s name on it that says, “DAY ONE FAN – 1960”. Ray loved hunting and fishing and took the opportunity as often as he could to be out doing such activities. Ray also had a creative side. He learned to do leather work as a hobby and as many of his family and friends know, he became quite good at it.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 19th, 2022, at 11am, at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Marble Falls. There will be a BBQ luncheon following at the Marble Falls Senior Center on Ave L to gather with the family in support of their loss shortly after the service.
From your beloved wife Kathey
