Brett Sanford Ballard, age 64, gained his golden crown on June 22, 2021. He was born in Norman, Oklahoma to Dorothy (Dot) Hoyt Ballard and Hugh Cullen Ballard. Brett was raised in Dallas, Texas alongside his two brothers, Byron and Bart, in a household that illuminated generosity with Jesus at the center.
Brett attended Texas Tech so it is no surprise he ended up in the oil field industry. In his early 30s, he started a job as an oil rig driller in Rocksprings, Wyoming and Bart followed. After a short time, Brett’s experience with drilling as well as a desire to be close to family led them back to Texas. Working for Texas Odell Gear Construction as a Blasthole Driller, Brett found his true passion, the rock industry. It wasn’t long before Brett’s talent was noticed and he was recruited to work as Foreman for Capital Aggregates at their Georgetown plant. Brett’s enthusiasm and hard work quickly made him a leading expert in the industry and Capital Aggregates recognized his worth and promoted him to Plant Manager.
As a man of God with a desire to further the kingdom, Brett felt called to use his spiritual gifts of leadership, compassion, and wisdom to witness, encourage, inspire and build up the people God placed in his life. He modeled humility, resilience, integrity and positivity. Many of his employees spoke of the way he respected, valued and championed them. Brett had a way of recognizing the potential of those around him and challenged them to strive for big things while still creating deep relationships.
These characteristics and Brett’s yearning to glorify God were the foothold of Brett’s vocational success. Capital Aggregates acquired Dean Word, a road base producer, in Marble Falls and Brett was selected to oversee the take over and plant expansion. In true Brett fashion, he got to work and the plant thrived. Under his leadership, Capital Aggregates came under the radar of Oldcastle and was purchased—his passion and knowledge were a driving force behind their decision to purchase and their desire to keep him at the helm of the plant. Oldcastle is now the largest rock quarry of its kind in the United States.
Just across the highway in 2004, Brett struck up a conversation with a beautiful part-time bartender at Lake Country Lanes. Two years later, a friendship turned to love and he married his soulmate, Evia, on January 13, 2007. As a husband, Brett believed the key to a successful marriage was, “two people trying to out-serve one another”, and his marriage to Evia embodied that. This culmination of love also resulted in him assuming the well-deserved and earned title, father and Pop-Pop.
Brett is survived by his wife of 14 years Evia; daughter, Alaina Sivells; son Jacob Sivells (wife Chelsea, and their children Charley and Ty); brother, Bart Ballard (wife Linda); niece Maggie Barnes (husband Jon, and their children Lillian, Elaine, and Beau); nephew Ryan Ballard (wife Jenna, and their children Cashion and Eden).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Dot Ballard, and his brother, Byron Ballard.
Brett’s visitation service will be held from 5-7pm, on Sunday, June 27, at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 1805 US-281, Marble Falls, TX 78654.
A Celebration of Brett’s life will be held at 10am, on Monday, June 28, at Life Marble Falls, 1901 Mormon Mill Rd, Marble Falls, TX 78654, with Brother Boothe officiating.
