

Catherine Droby Watson was born in Palestine, TX to the late Fred and Virgie Droby on April 5, 1928. She attended public schools in Palestine and then attended Texas Christian University and graduated in 1949 with a degree in Psychology and Sociology. There she met and later married Rev. Lloyd T. Watson.
Catherine went on to devote her life to Christian Education and leadership development. She served in a variety of roles across Texas, particularly in the Houston area. Following her graduation from TCU, she served as the director of Religious Education at Washington Boulevard Christian Church (Beaumont, TX), Day School Director at Bellaire Christian Church, (Bellaire, TX), and Minister to Children at Bethany Christian Church, (Houston, TX).
A Licensed Minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), her ministry consistently focused on nurturing young people in faith formation, and equipping leaders within the church. She served for several years as the Associate Minister of the Coastal Plains Area of the Christian in the Southwest. Those responsibilities included ecumenical relationships for leader development. In that role, she was also a staff person for Christian Women’s Fellowship/Disciples Women. Rev. Watson received an award from Brite Divinity School for Specialized Ministry noting her years of work in training leaders for Christian Education.
Her influence is well remembered throughout the life of the wider church. Along with her ministry, Catherine was known as avid lover of needle work, such as cross stitch and quilting. Many friends and family members cherish her crafted gifts.
Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Virgie Droby, her sister, Mary, her husband, Lloyd, and son, Jerry. She leaves a life of love and devotion to her children, Cindy (Ron) Winters, Cheri (Ron) Brown, Tommy (Bonnie) Watson, and Jill Watson. Catherine is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, including Jason (Tammy), Nick, Kayli, Noah, Hannah, Kristin, Amber (Mike), Allen, Libby, Daniel (Dawn), Asher, Avery, Eva, Damion, Emyah, Jay (Vanessa), Monroe, JT (Ashley), Emmett, Lincoln, and Jenna.
