Chuck served 22 years in the Army and was deployed to Korea and Vietnam during his service. After retiring from the Army he moved to Spicewood, TX in 1976 where he lived off and on until his death. Chuck then went on to work for several companies including LCRA where he finally retired in 1995. Chuck enjoyed spending time with his family as well as boating, motorcycling, fishing and camping. He loved rebuilding cars, trucks and motorcycles in his younger years but in his later years he enjoyed going to Rockport to fish.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents Lewis Cottingham and Octivia Jackson Cottingham and brother James Cottingham of South Carolina and by his son William Cottingham of TX.
He is survived by his brother, Gene Cottingham and sister Joyce Carter, both of South Carolina, his children Richard Cottingham and wife Karen of Amarillo, TX, Elaine Behm and husband Rick of Georgetown, TX, Douglas Cottingham and wife Beth of Spicewood, TX, and Sylvia Burns and husband Tommy of San Marcos, TX. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Steven and Nancy, children of William Cottingham, Charles son of Richard Cottingham, Alfred and Katherine, children of Douglas Cottingham, Tanner and Derek sons of Sylvia Burns, in addition to numerous great grandchildren, nephews, nieces and cousins.
Charles was a quiet force of nature and a dynamic character, a loving husband, wonderful father and grandfather. His grandchildren were the love of his life.
Graveside Service Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 11:00 am, Lakeland Hills Memorial Park, Burnet, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation or the Wounded Warrior Project.
